Duties

he primary purpose of this position is: This position is located in the Medical Group at an Air National Guard Wing. The purpose is to provide a professional Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer installation-wide Medical management, which includes aerospace and operational disposition and medical case management.

  • Administer comprehensive medical assessments, physical assessments, and preventative medical service to Air National Guard ANG members at an ANG Wing. Performs comprehensive physical assessments of ANG members to include full physical assessments, significant past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, recording/reviewing current medications, and immunization history. Requests, orders, and interprets laboratory tests related to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR), mobility and retention standards, and flying standards. Requests, evaluates, and applies the findings of radiological studies. When needed, requests consultations to assist on interpretation of abnormal studies and discusses the interpretation of abnormal studies with the member's treating provider. Services involve direct management of occupational/preventive medicine practices including, but not limited to, fitness for duty (FFD) assessments, annual, and Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), annual Web Health Assessments (WEBHA), Line of Duty (LOD) determination, Medical Continuation (MEDCON), Incapacitation (INCAP) pay, Convalescent Leave
    (CONLV), Disability Evaluation System (DES) Wing fitness questionnaires. Management of fly and non-fly waivers and assignment disability codes (ALC). Conducts face to face meetings relating to the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).
  • Provides medical management of key Wing Deployment and Operation programs: Force Health Protection and Aerospace Medicine Program. Analyzes data across all medical programs and reports medical trends. Conducts records review for quality measures and reports findings with suggested process improvement. Administers occupational health related evaluations and conducts shop visits, water sampling, food inspections, Hearing Conservation, Fetal Protection, Respiratory Protections, Radiological Protection, Ionizing Radiation, Portable Water Quality, Hazard Communication
    (HAZCOM), and Quantitative Fit Testing Programs. Oversight of compliance and execution of deployment health assessments and other deployment related services, such as IMR, Immunizations, Separation History and Physical Examinations (SHPE), Pre and Post Deployment Health Assessment Program (DRHA, Automated Neuropsychological Assessments (ANAM).
  • Provides technical medical and administrative leadership and serves as a member of the professional medical staff. Guides, councils, and supervises medical group full-time personnel. Professionally supervises full-time enlisted and civilian medical personnel. Participates in medical group and host Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) committees, as needed, such as Aerospace Medicine Committee (AMC), DAWG, Occupational and Environment Health Working Group
    (OEHWG), and Credentials. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups.
  • Serves as Credentials Manager, the principle advisor and manager for professional staff credentialing and privileging programs for the medical group. Coordinates with AFMOA and NGB/SG and medical group providers to complete credentialing and privileging requirements. Acts as liaison to ensure medical providers are credentialed and privileged appropriately for training and deployment.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommends awards when appropriate and approves within-grade increases. Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, respirator masks, and/or helmets.
  • Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
  • Member may be exposed to occupational hazards in the normal course of duties (i.e., aviation environment, inspecting shops with occupational hazards, etc.).
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain privileging for the DOD/AFMS/ANGMS
  • Must maintain credentials requirements at all times (i.e. current and unrestricted state license, BLS, clinical competencies, etc.)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Licensure:

For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

GS-12 Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of Doctorate of Physician Assistant Studies, Doctorate of Science Physician Assistant (DScPA) or equivalent; or
  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related health field and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Examples of related doctoral degree programs include, but are not limited to, public health; allied health field; public health education; or other related health science programs; or
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-11 grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program as described above.

Education

  • Completion of Doctorate of Physician Assistant Studies, Doctorate of Science Physician Assistant (DScPA) or equivalent; or
  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related health field and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Examples of related doctoral degree programs include, but are not limited to, public health; allied health field; public health education; or other related health science programs; or

You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.
