Duties

Help

  1. As the Deputy, works with the Division Chief to plan, organize, oversee and supervise the activities of the HQ AMC Nuclear Inspections Division.
  2. As the Deputy, this position participates with the Division Chief in the exercise of supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  3. Applying 801X and Nuclear Surety Inspection experience, serves as a senior command technical expert and focal point for nuclear inspections policies, operations, and requirements.
  4. Directs, plans and organizes team study work to perform command functional area review of assigned nuclear inspection for peacetime and wartime conditions to ensure proper planning and execution of inspections and to determine the capabilities, limitations, constraints and the impact on assets and operations.
  5. Leads or participates as a command nuclear inspection technical expert in interagency groups to resolve problems regarding nuclear inspection issues.

  • Rated Air Force nuclear aviator experience (e.g., pilot, navigator) is critical to the successful completion of the work and is highly desired.
  • Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-secret Security Clearance.
  • Nuclear command and control air mobility experience is highly desired.
  • Nuclear tanker Wing Plans and/or Inspector General Experience is highly desired
  • Temporary Duty away from in garrison location is a large part of the job.
  • Travel will be conducted by commercial and military means. Hotel stays will be required with temporary offices at inspected location.
  • Must be able to work in military aircraft, secure location, and during all hours of the day or night.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
  • "This is a Supervisory Position." A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions for General Inspection Investigation Enforcement and Compliance Series, 1801.



SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of nuclear surety and inspections policies, procedures, and programs as they relate to the various command entities involved in nuclear airlift, nuclear command & control and nuclear air refueling operations; to air operations involving air assets, en-route infrastructure, and employment of mission support forces, and assigned weapon systems; knowledge of and skill in the applications of 801X and/or Nuclear Airlift expertise as it applies to the assigned nuclear inspection area. Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative analyses of data associated with the nuclear inspection process; knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures.


FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of nuclear surety and inspections policies, procedures, and programs as they relate to the various command entities involved in nuclear airlift, nuclear command & control and nuclear air refueling operations; to air operations involving air assets, en-route infrastructure, and employment of mission support forces, and assigned weapon systems.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the applications of 801X and/or Nuclear Airlift expertise as it applies to the assigned nuclear inspection area. Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative analyses of data associated with the nuclear inspection process.
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures.
  • Skill in designing and conducting comprehensive studios, and preparing/presenting solutions to especially broad, important, and severe military operational and contingency areas.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and supervise, mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors; to analyze; plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives with available resources.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead others in nuclear inspection studies or projects and to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources, and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, negotiates complex issues, and maintains good working relationships.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
