Summary

About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at the Tooele Army Depot. This position serves as a Welder, performing welding duties using electric, oxyacetylene, and/or inert gas- shielded welding process.
Utilizes templates, jigs, blueprints, MIL Standards, and other guides to repair, modify, and/or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment.
Designs and fabricates special tools and fixtures to hold work securely in place to resist welding stresses and facilitate quality welding.
Installs fabricated sheet metal components and makes minor repairs in MILVAN's.
Interprets blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, etc.
Inspects containers, and arranges for major equipment and spare parts required in the repair of containers.
Inspects all MILVAN or containers received and shipped at Tooele, including containers loaded with ammunition.
Operates container handling equipment operating various makes, types, and sizes, capable of lifting up to 99,000 pounds as high as 48 feet, to perform the loading, unloading, moving, or lifting of heavy containers.
Operates forklifts capable of lifting up to 15,000 pounds to load, unload, stack, unstack, warehouse, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
Must be certified through the standards of the American Welding Society. AWS Dl.1 and ASME Section IX (6G position) within 12 months of appointment.
TDY travel may occasionally be required.
Must successfully complete training in hazardous waste management procedures within 6 months after the date of appointment to this position and will not work in unsupervised situations until these training requirements have been met.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license with a capacity of up to 15,000 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Welder WG-08 without more than normal supervision.
Apply welds using flat and horizontal positions; set-up and adjust equipment to accomplish welds; use shop orders, work orders, blueprints and drawings to determine equipment and material needed to accomplish welds.
Failure to meet the Screen Out Element(s) will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Welder work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling which may be done in awkward and cramped positions. Frequently handles objects weighing from 20 to 45 pounds in setting up work and equipment and in completing assignments. Incumbent seeks assistance from co-workers, operates lifts, or overhead hoist for items in excess of 45 pounds. During forklift operation, physical effort is required in braking and steering, manipulation of clutch, shift, lifting and tilting mechanism.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather, in areas that are noisy, dirty, and smoky. Involves exposure to fumes; infrared and ultraviolet radiation; heat and flying sparks; the glare of torches and heated materials; the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, and broken bones; and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. The majority of the work is performed on concrete floors or, as required, on or in equipment being repaired. Subject to contamination from unusually hazardous agents and to potential explosions while welding equipment in designated hazard areas or locations.
