Duties

Help

Performs faculty duties and teaches junior college-level courses. Provides first level supervisory responsibility and directs the English Department at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Preparatory School. Teaches and tutors junior college-level English courses; plans, develops, and implements same courses; works with other department faculty members in areas of curriculum development, effective teaching concepts, and means of enhancing the students' learning process. Evaluates performance, leadership, and officer potential of cadet candidates and advises students in a classroom and on a one-on-one basis to enhance their academic and study skills potential. Serves in auxiliary unit positions as established by the Commander or the Academic Dean, and will conduct and promote professional development activities.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: At a minimum, candidates must possess: 1) an earned Bachelor's Degree in English or related discipline and five years of full-time teaching experience; or 2) a relevant Master's Degree and 3 years of full-time teaching experience. All candidates must show potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES:
English, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing, Journalism

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate English instruction with experience and success working with remedial English students. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in leadership and teaching of developmental writing at the post-secondary level, who have experience with assessment and integrating relevant technologies into a developmental writing curriculum, and who have a commitment to the success of students of varied backgrounds and the development of students as "whole persons."

Candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Leadership experience in curriculum development and academic assessment is desired.

Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline.

EDUCATION:
If selected, you will be requested to provide original copies of ALL OFFICIAL transcripts for degrees being pursued or obtained (or letter of degree completion if an OFFICIAL transcript is not available due to recent graduation) to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a transcript to be considered OFFICIAL, it should be printed on university letterhead and the registrar's official seal/signature must appear on the transcript. Your transcripts must also reflect the degree awarded/conferred date. Transcripts labeled UNOFFICIAL will not be accepted.

Upon request, ensure you include ALL transcripts to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae (resume) even if not required for this position.

FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
