Duties

Help
  • Determine proper work methods, procedures, and trade techniques to be applied in performing ballistic welding involved in repair of combat vehicle hulls, turrets and body assemblies.
  • Ensure precision measuring instruments are in good repair and function according to specifications and safety requirements.
  • Apply written instructions, blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications to perform specific weld passes.
  • Operate welding equipment, stud machines, power tools and other tools and equipment common to the trade.
  • Perform welding duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes such as pre-heating, brazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat treating, etc.
  • Ensure hazard materials and waste within work area are handled and/or processed within operating guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an WELDER LEADER without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common welding task such as utilize light and heavy gages, and hardened metals to weld assigned items, using flat vertical, horizontal and overhead positions to prevent overheating and distortion. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. -

  • Physical Effort: Work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Occasionally work is performed in awkward and hard to reach places. Frequently lifts items weighing 20-50 pounds and occasionally items over 65 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Most of work is performed in shop buildings that are drafty and noisy. Occasionally performs work outside being exposed to weather extremes. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, grease, odors, smoke, fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, broken bones from falls off scaffolds/ladders, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects; and discomforts of wearing protective clothing, gloves, flash shield, respirator, etc.
