Duties

Help

  • Provide emergency 911 and dispatching services. Determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Performs Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services to callers with medical emergencies.
  • Maintain maps, checklists and charts, including automated programs.
  • Operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records relating to emergency responses.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions

GENERALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of generalized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems. Generalized experience may include knowledge of communications operations, basic computer operations to include word, processing, retrieval and input of data. The ability to read layered computerized grid maps which reflect such systems as electrical, water gas, central heating distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage and pollution control. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. Able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergencies and work independently without immediate supervision.

Ideal Candidate: Looking for a Full-Time Emergency Vehicle Dispatcher to work at the 96 Test Wing, 96 Civil Engineer Group, 96 Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire & Emergency Services Flight (96 CES/CEF) at Eglin AFB, in Florida, to provide emergency fire, police and medicals services to the public by answering emergency 911 call and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. This equipment includes firefighting, hazardous materials, and wild land firefighting, technical rescue and ambulance services. Provides advanced emergency medical dispatch life support through pre-arrival instructions to callers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of Medical Dispatch services, 911 and emergency vehicle dispatch/communication operation, and procedures.
2. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data. A qualified typist is not required.
3. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus, and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.
4. Incumbent must maintain a current EMD certification. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision. Ability to deal effectively with others in both oral and written communications, to plan, organize and reprioritize work, to meet deadlines.
5. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations, time required to complete the job, availability of materials, tool requirements, and priority reassessment.
6. Knowledge of Civil Engineering and associated real property maintenance repair processes, terminology and production requirements to schedule immediate and projected maintenance requirements.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
