Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent Capitol Building, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services and Facility Operations Division, Maintenance Branch. The selectee assists with a variety of electronic functions in connection with the inspection, maintenance and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators and various industrial equipment in the Superintendent Capitol Building.

This is a career ladder position to the WG-12 level.

Duties

Help

This is a career ladder position. The selectee performs developmental assignments under closer than normal supervision and assignments become progressively more difficult until the full-performance level at the WG-12 is reached.

Tour of Duty:

Evening Shift: 12:00 pm - 9:30 pm (Hours may Change Due to Operational Needs of Management)

This position is emergency essential.  Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

DUTIES:

Assists with and Learns Trade Practices and Skills

Performs developmental assignments under closer than normal supervision and assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached.

Learns the proper usage of tools and equipment of the trade.

Learns the order of assembling parts and what tools and equipment are needed.

Elevator/Escalator and Industrial Equipment Maintenance and Repair

Assist the journey level mechanics with elevator maintenance and repair.

Learns how to read blueprints, sketches and technical manuals to understand the functions of the parts or systems.

Learns how to plan and lay out work and to aid in finding faulty parts or systems; repair techniques to be used including methods used in getting the right fits or tolerances; how to make adjustments and calibrations.

Learns how to rebuild and/or make parts.

Assist in resolving service complaints and documents deficiencies.

Assist with preparing valid parts orders, carrying tools and parts to work site.

Maintain cleanliness of work site and shop.

Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.

Uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
