This position is located at the 149th MAI SQ, Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX. The purpose of this position is to provide munitions supervision in one or more of the three functional sections to support the state and designated agencies and perform associated nonsupervisory work. Perform Munitions Accountable Systems Officer (MASO) delegated duties in the absence of the MASO.

As a ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (Title 32) with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assign duties to subordinates. Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Ensure personnel are trained to execute munitions operations. Review work in progress or on completion. Make adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work. Document and investigate work related problems and implement corrective actions. Assure equipment, material and resources are available when needed.
  • Initiates and submits requests for personnel actions for subordinate personnel and to fill position vacancies. Recommend and participate in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedule and approve leave of subordinates. Establish performance standards and create formal and informal appraisals. Determine training needs of subordinates, develop effective qualification training program and verify its accomplishment. Counsel employees as needed. Address informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Take formal/ informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiate proposals for disciplinary action when needed. Work to achieve the objectives of government-wide programs and policies, equal employment opportunity and labor management relations. Promote the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program and cost reduction program. Maintain production reports and records. Annually, or upon vacancy, review position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy. Participates in position management in order to promote efficiencies.
  • Precision Guided Munitions (PGM), Line Delivery, Munitions Support Equipment Maintenance, and Conventional Munitions Maintenance (CMM). Serves as the technical advisor and subject matter expert in their area. Report the status of personnel and equipment, shortfalls, job starts, delays and completions, and any other significant operational issues to the Flight Chief. Ensures facilities and capability exists to perform required maintenance on conventional/guided munitions, missiles and associated components. Ensures actions are taken to maintain or request facility power as the primary source of power for testing of conventional/guided munitions and missiles to meet specifications required by item technical orders. Appoints and maintains a primary and alternate Tactical Missile Record System administrator. Maintains close coordination with the Weapons Standardization to preclude deterioration of load trainers and PGMs between inspection intervals. Develops procedures for delivery of munitions utilizing explosive routes, runway crossing, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) identification, and Entry Control Points (ECP). Ensure the Munitions Flight is on initial distribution for software upgrades. Ensures personnel are trained to handle, mark, and package munitions assets.
  • Responsible to Flight Chief for overall management of Materiel Sections; Stockpile Management, Inspection, and Operations. Serves as the technical advisor and subject matter expert in their area. Ensures segregation of duties is maintained both physically and within the APSR. Reports the status of personnel and equipment, shortfalls, job starts, delays and completions, and any other significant operational issues to the Flight Chief. Provides oversight of the unit's capability to provide munitions storage in support of daily training, War Reserve Material (WRM), and functional user's missions. Ensures facility inspections, maintenance, and housekeeping are performed at required intervals to include lightning protection systems; ensures submission of work requests when facilities require maintenance, repair, or do not meet standards. Develops and ensures utilization of a standardized munitions storage location system.
  • Responsible to Flight Chief for overall management of systems sections: Munitions Control, Mobility, Training, Combat Plans, and Plans and Scheduling. Serves as the technical advisor and subject matter expert. Reports the status of personnel and equipment, shortfalls, job starts, delays and completions, and any other significant operational issues to the Flight Chief. Provides broad oversight of the unit's routine and contingency planning, workload and production scheduling, and flight-line munitions support activities depending on the unit's mission. Oversees facilities, equipment, vehicle, and munitions resource status, capabilities, and limitations that may impact mission accomplishment and promptly inform munitions supervision of problems and limiting factors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Air National Guard.

Areas of Consideration: Nationwide. This includes:

  • All currently employed full-time permanent, indefinite and temporary personnel of the Texas Air National Guard,
  • All current members of the Texas Air National Guard, and
  • All individuals eligible for membership in the Texas Air National Guard.

Military Requirements:

For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required.

Military skill set is determined by AFSC/MOS requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC/MOS in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC/MOS.

Specialized Experience:

Experience or training in repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing a variety of major subassemblies. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining repair in major components consisting of numerous assemblies, interrelated electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assemblies, and components. Experience in the use of precision measurement equipment. Experience interpreting and applying a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials. In addition to journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
