Duties

Help
  • Distributes workload among employees, ensures timely completion of assignments, and provides guidance on procedures and policies.
  • Conducts on-the-job training for new employees and provides ongoing training for the workforce on systems and operations.
  • Advises on personnel needs and reports on subordinate job performance.
  • Investigates and resolves material and documentation discrepancies, reconciles computer rejects, and responds to customer issues.
  • Identifies and documents material movement and/or workload flows using standard flowcharting methods to assist in troubleshooting, process standardization or process improvement.
  • Assists in developing Operation Handbooks, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Job Aids to support the training of supply system functions.
  • Ensures adherence to OSHA and VPP safety requirements and mentors others in identifying and correcting safety hazards.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Lead Supply Technician, your resume and supporting documentation must support:


A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-08 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:

  • Assisting supply operations, which includes distributing workload, training personnel, and reporting on team performance. Independently researching and resolving complex material and documentation discrepancies, developing process improvements, and executing quality control plans. Creating and reviewing training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs) while ensuring strict adherence to safety and compliance standards.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands

Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that regularly require walking, standing, stooping, reaching, bending, lifting, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to wear safety shoes and other appropriate safety equipment when operating MHE and performing day-to-day tasks. On occasion, climb ladders, work on safety pallets, lift objects, crawl, and/or enter restricted areas. Work frequently requires handling items weighing up to 40 pounds or more, obtaining assistance from co-workers and/or utilizing lifting devices.

Work Environment

Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Work is usually performed inside in areas that are hot, cold, or damp but may also involve working in outside storage areas. Individuals may be exposed to dusty, dirty or greasy conditions. Individuals may be exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, and broken bones from falls or falling items. Employees are required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area were assigned or as directed by the higher graded specialist or supervisor.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.

ADVISORY: Use of cannabidiol (CBD) products may result in a positive drug test for marijuana. DLA employees are subject to Federal law and under Federal law, Marijuana is a Schedule I drug and is illegal.
