This position is located within the Office of Protection Services' ID Section (AOP-ID). The Personnel Security Specialist carries out and supervises a few subordinate positions in the daily operations of Protection Services’ ID Section (AOP-ID) which handles credentialing and personnel security functions.
In this position you will:
Ensure compliance with HSPD-12 PIV regulations and related National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) “Special Publication 201” and other government guidance.
Ensure proper procedures are followed; ensure that staff work complies with policies regarding adjudication, suitability and fitness.
Conduct routine audits of record management for the ID section.
Serve as the reviewer and suitability adjudicator of DCSA conducted investigations.
Coordinate and oversee inquiries through law enforcement database systems such as, but not limited to, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and NCIC Criminal History system.
Establish and maintain liaison to appropriate local and federal law enforcement agencies to facilitate the exchange of security and/or investigative information.
Subject to a background/suitability investigation.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: For this position, specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-12 level in the federal service, performing specialized personnel security work for a government entity.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
