This position is located within the Recycling Program Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station Mayport Jacksonville, Florida. The purpose of this position is to primarily perform manual labor duties in support of the Recycling Program.

This position is located within the Recycling Program Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station Mayport Jacksonville, Florida. The purpose of this position is to primarily perform manual labor duties in support of the Recycling Program.
The incumbent will learn to segregate various paper products, i.e. cardboard, sorted office paper, newsprint, colored paper and various metal types, i.e. ferrous from non-ferrous, (aluminum from steel) and copper from brass. CuNi, bronze.
The incumbent operates equipment such as cardboard balers, can crushers, drills, portable chop saws, and hand grinders. Incumbent may be trained to operate other equipment used in recycling center such as cutting torches and gasoline and/or diesel generators.
The incumbent inspects recycling equipment for cleanliness and ensures all equipment is in good working order. The incumbent performs minor preventive maintenance as necessary on recycling equipment. Alerts the Recycling Manager of any needed repairs and their status
The incumbent may operate various vehicles including cargo vans, stake bodied trucks, 6- and 15-thousand-pound forklifts, skid steer loaders, pick-up trucks with trailers and lift gates both on base and off base. Incumbent may operate weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks or lifts, pallet jacks, and dollies to move very heavy loads. Significant manual skill may be required to load/unload very heavy items onto weight-handling devices.
The incumbent is responsible for properly loading and securing any loads being moved both on and off base. The incumbent performs vehicle checks to include checking oil and water levels, air pressure in tires and keeping fuel levels attended to prior to operating.
The incumbent will keep the vehicles clean and smoke free.
Continual care and attention must be exercised to prevent accidents because of the nature of the duties involved. Incumbent must abide by all safety rules and regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment while working and operating equipment.
Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.

Must have a valid state drivers’ license.
Exposure to noise and dust with frequent lifting of items weighing over 50 pounds or more. Materials handles may be dirty, rough and sharp.
Exposure to various weather conditions including heat, humidity, cold and wet weather.
May be exposed to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
The incumbent will have, or be capable of learning, basic operations of cardboard balers; can crushers, drills, portable chop saws, hand grinders and be able to learn how to operate other equipment if the need arises (cutting torches) and gasoline and/or diesel generators.
The incumbent must be able to identify ferrous from non-ferrous metal and to sort each into similar piles for sales after initial training period.
Must have a valid Florida drivers' license and be able to pass a motor vehicle operator's license pre-employment screening. Incumbent should be able to obtain a forklift license.
Must be able to lift items weighing over 50 pounds and pass a pre-employment physical examination.
