Help

As a GOVERNMENT INFORMATION SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties:

- Researching, analyzing, and evaluating data for response to FOIA and Privacy Act requests made by first parties, third parties, or other government entities.

- Determining whether DCSA maintains records responsive to a request. Reviewing responsive records, withholding information that is exempt from release according to FOIA, Privacy Act, and other applicable regulations, and assembling release packages.

- Processing simple and complex requests from federal, state, and local entities when the purpose is consistent with a Privacy Act condition of disclosure or a routine use from applicable system of records notices.

- Draft correspondence to individuals, DCSA offices, other government agencies, or Congressional offices in response to questions or requests for information pertaining to the FOIA and/or Privacy Act.

- Provide customer service by answering phones calls and e-mails form internal and external requesters, their representatives, and other Federal agencies about FOIA and/or Privacy Act procedures and processes.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG-07 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Researching, analyzing, and evaluating data for response to information requests made by first parties, third parties, or other government entities.
  • Researching information systems and/or record sets to identify and locate documents responsive to information requests.
  • Reviewing responsive records, identifying information that is not releasable, drafting response correspondence to requesters, and assembling release packages.
  • Assisting with records management activities, to include maintaining a records inventory and performing database management.

OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

1. Program Management - Designs, implements and manages multiple or ongoing programs/projects, and directs the related resources, personnel and activities.
2. Communications - Communicate (i.e., written and oral) rights, responsibilities, management directives, policies, and/or regulations to employees, supervisors, and/or other pertinent individuals.
3. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Education

If substituting education for experience at the GG-09 level, you must possess a masters or equivalent degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree, OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

If substituting education for experience, transcripts MUST be provided. Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.

VETERANS PREFERENCE/CURRENT OR FORMER FEDERAL
