The purpose of the work of the position is to effectively coordinate and improve the maintenance, operation of fleet services and to provide technical expertise. Manages the operation and specialized administration of the Fleet Unit.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the operation and administration for the Fleet program with primary responsibilities are coordinating, planning, budgeting, and maintaining consistency in fleet services.
  • Gathers large amounts of statistical, and background data on past expenditures.
  • Conducts management studies and providing advice to the Project Supervisor and Leadership for future fleet issues.
  • Reports non-compliance or inadequate reporting to higher management with recommendations for correction.
  • Monitors documentation of this reporting for timeliness, accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Communicates agency and local policies and priorities to all employees using vehicles and equipment in the fleet.
  • Orders/cancels credit cards, reviews statements checking for fraud or misuse.
  • Reconciles monthly and undergoes a monthly random audit with Fiscal Service.
  • Researches all vehicle use including mileage, number of trips, numbers of passengers always making sure the fleet is right sized and maintained within Veterans Affairs (VA) and General Services Administration (GSA) standards.
  • Interacts with all personnel within the facility as well as many other government and nongovernment agencies, contractors, vendors, law enforcement agencies, etc.
  • Tracks all vehicle histories from time of purchase/donation to six (6) years past the turn-in or salvage/auction of each vehicle or piece of equipment (per credit card regulations).
  • Reviews billing from vendors to ensure tax exempt procedure/policy is adhered to.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications

Specialized Experience GS-6: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; performing a basic analysis of data and generating a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: No special physical demands are required to carry out the job. Although some of the work is sedentary, the employee will be walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying some light items weighing twenty five (25) pounds or more on a frequent basis, as well as driving a Government-owned vehicle when delivering supplies and equipment to various buildings at the facility. Uses hand trucks, dollies, carts, and racks when moving supplies and equipment.

A majority of the time, incumbent works indoors in an area with adequate heating, lighting and ventilation. When required to deliver fleet to services or for maintenance, employee works outside and is exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent is exposed to soiled uniforms.
