Duties

Help
  • Serves as lifeguard for outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager or pool supervisor. Performs lifeguarding duties and employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed. Keeps accurate records and adequate supplies.
  • Assists with scheduling of staff and programs, tracking inventory and ordering supplies. Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from any hazards. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety rules and procedures.
  • Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follows facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions. Assists in coaching or preparing the competitive and non-competitive swimming programs as required.
  • Maintains daily logs and records as required. Other duties as assigned.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
  • Incumbent may also required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Subject to additional background checks for having regular and recurring contact with children.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
  • In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • Physical and immunization is required.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • Incumbent is assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements. Work hours involve weekends, weekdays, holidays, night duty and early mornings.
  • Incumbent may be assigned to assist at the physical fitness center as needed.
  • Eligible citizenship is U.S. citizen or non-U.S. citizen under Japan/U.S. SOFA agreement. U.S. citizens overseas under ordinary resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.

Qualifications

1. Possesses and maintains the following certifications:

  • Lifeguard (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis);
  • American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional;
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent (i.e. Star Guard or Ellis);
  • First Aid.
2. Customer service experience.

Highly Desirable:American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Lifeguard Instructor Certification; OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Water Safety Instructor Certification.

In addition, possess and have the ability to maintain an O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard or Ellis Oxygen Administration) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

  • Living Quarter Allowance (LQA) is not authorized.
