Duties

Help
  • Passes on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods and starts work. Insures that needed material and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
  • Ensures all workers have enough work and are fully utilized. Checks work in progress; checks completed work for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines.
  • Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and other directions.
  • Provides information to supervisors on status and progress of work, causes of delays, overall work operations and problems and additional on-the-job training required by the individual employees.
  • Conducts training on standard operating procedures, quality control measures, and accepted policies and practices.
  • Operates an aisle mobile hybrid crane vehicle to lift, move and position items to be picked and stored within the high-rise storage areas.
  • Operates material handling equipment such as: forklifts, tugs, storage and retrieval vehicles, platform lifts, stock selectors, conveyors, robotic pallet manipulators, and other general-purpose vehicles.
  • Receives items to be stored either loose, boxed or palletized. Verifies stock destination, NSN, quantity, cube, etc., against storage documentation.
  • Packs/repacks loose or preboxed items into a limited variety of skid mounted, prefabricated multi-wall or tri-wall containers.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Work requires standing on hard surfaces, maintaining balance for extended periods of time. Regularly stands and works on an elevated, mechanized platform reaching heights of up to 62 feet. Requires pushing, pulling and depressing various hand and foot controls which require bending, stooping, reaching and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times at the same time. Duties require constant standing, turning/twisting, driving MHE, reaching forward, grasping, handling, fingering, eye/hand coordination; foot/hand/eye coordination, and seeing. Duties require frequent sitting, bending (at waist), and finger dexterity. Duties require occasional walking; kneeling; crouching; crawling; climbing stairs, steps, and ladders; reaching overhead; and throwing items weighing up to 5 pounds for a distance of up to 2 feet. Occasionally lifts items from floor height which weigh up to 40 pounds from an approximate starting height of 6 inches to an approximate ending height of 3 feet. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 40 pounds from waist level from a starting height of about 2 feet to an ending height of about 30 inches. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 40 pounds from shoulder level from a starting height of about 4 feet to an ending height of about 6 feet. Occasionally carries items weighing up to 40 pounds for a distance of 10 to 15 feet. Occasionally pushes items weighing up to 80 foot pounds for a distance of 10 to 15 feet and frequently pulls those items for a distance of approximately 3 feet. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds. Incumbent must maintain body weight not in excess of 300 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Work is usually performed inside (outside when using a tug or fork lift to move items between warehouses) in areas that are hot, cold, or damp. Conditions may be uncomfortable when operating the aisle hybrid mobile crane near the ceiling. May be exposed to dusty, dirty, or greasy conditions. Individual is regularly exposed to the possibility of electrical shock (AC or DC), cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, and broken bones from falls or falling items. Duties require the wearing of special safety equipment (i.e. safety shoes, repelling harnesses, etc.). Individual is subject to injury from sudden cabin drops of up to 20 feet while operating the aisle hybrid mobile crane.
