What to Expect

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Recreational Shooting programs to include skeet, trap, pistol, and archery.

  • Instructs staff and patrons on range safety practices and provides general firearm and marksmanship information.

  • Manages retail shop with ammunition and related equipment rental.

  • Maintains and repairs all weapons and performs routine repairs on range machinery.

  • Ensures adequate stock of ammunition, related range accessories, targets, and spare parts for weapons and machinery are on hand for all ranges.

  • Responsible for daily inventory of weapons and ammunition, ensuring proper handling, storage, accountability, and compliance with all related security and storage regulations.

  • Formulates and implements procedures for responsible range management in accordance with regulations and higher level directives.

  • Ensures all operating procedures are in accordance with installation, local and federal laws, maintains communications with and follows instructions of the installation range control agency to ensure safe operations.

  • Responsible for implementing and promoting a high standard of recreational shooting programs to include leagues, competitions, instructional classes and special events.

  • This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This is a non-critical sensitive position, must be able to successfully complete and obtain an Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI).

This is a "covered position" for the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act for Department of the Navy civilian personnel.  If the incumbent comes in contact with firearms, or ammunition in this position they must complete a DD Form 2760 certifying whether, or not they have ever obtained a "qualifying conviction" for a misdemeanor, or felony crime of domestic violence.  All covered employees have a continuing obligation to notify their supervisors through use of the DD Form 2760 if they obtain a qualifying conviction.

What are looking for?

  • Three years experience that demonstrates progressively responsible administrative and technical work involving recreational shooting operations, one year must be at the supervisory level.

  • Must have the ability to supervise, deal effectively with subordinates, management officials, and patrons.

  • Must be able to communicate orally, in writing and possess personal computer skills to create and transmit daily communications and required reports.

  • Must be knowledgeable of range safety rules and regulations and interpreting National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and Amateur Trap Association (ATA).
