To serve as a senior educational technician and provide support and guidance to appropriated fund (APF) employees, non-appropriated fund (NAF)employees, and other employees as assigned.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for technical program oversight of the lower graded assistants, lead program assistants, and technicians providing them mentoring, training and instruction.
  • Provides age-appropriate developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Follows the Air Force approved curriculum to support children's development.
  • Ensures a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Prepares daily activities for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age that supports the inclusion of children with special needs.

  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  • Incumbent must complete additional training requirements within specified timelines (to include AF courses, medication dispensing, (Cont)
  • (Cont): observation of symptoms of illness, security, safety, developmentally appropriate practice, lifting, including CPR and First Aid).
  • Employees and family members requiring medical/dental care in the overseas location are responsible for obtaining/paying for care. Access for these members to military medical/dental treatment facilities is on space-available/reimbursable basis only.
  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Incumbent must complete all applicable courses in Virutal Lab School.
  • Incumbent must complete physical examination and required immunizations for child care programs in accordance with guidance from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: for Internal Candidates Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include Responsible for technical program oversight of the lower graded assistants, lead program assistants, and technicians providing them mentoring, training and instruction; resolve informal complaints and informs Assistant Director or CDC (Child Development Center)
Director of status; provide age appropriate developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age; prepare and/ or maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules; ensure a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all children; conduct daily indoor and outdoor, fire, safety and health inspections of the facility prior to opening; prepare daily activities for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age that supports the inclusion of children with special needs.

Successfully have successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to this position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Internal Candidates: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of comprehensive child development requirements, policies, procedures and processes. Knowledge of
    appropriate early childhood guidance practices, techniques and programs.

    2. Knowledge of physical, intellectual, social, emotional and nutritional stages of development of young chidren in
    applying basic child development principles, concepts, practices to perform CDC operation assignments.

    3. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing; Ability to adapt planned activities for children's individual skills.

    4. Ability to ensure the safety and hygiene of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space and
    proper management of equipment.

    5. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.

    6. Ability and skill to lead subordinate employees and foster effective working relationship with others.


PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
