Duties

Help

  • Designs, implements and reviews activity plans. Develops plans which stimulate and sustain the interest of children and which contribute to their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
  • Develops programs, which promote the growth of each child in the group.
  • Observes and evaluates children's development level and maintains record of progress. Maintains effective communication with parents and participates in conferences with parents and program assistants.
  • Acts as a building supervisor in the absence of the Director, Operations Manager or higher graded employees.
  • Seeks ongoing professional development and regularly participates in ongoing staff meetings and workshops to improve personal and professional skills.

  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • Must provide evidence of required immunizations and complete a tuberculin skin test every three years
  • Position has been identified as having regular contact with children. IAW Public Law 101-647, Section 231a, a state Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check will be completed. Must be able to successfully complete all required background checks
  • Must complete additional training requirements including CPR first aid and food handlers
  • Training may be conducted on the weekends and evening hours
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty or rotating shifts including nights or weekends
  • Position is not centrally managed/PCS funds are not authorized
  • Must be able to lift, on a regular and recurring basis, children weighing up to 40 pounds

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience in the private or public sector performing work that includes knowledge of an extensive body of childcare rules and procedures requiring extended training and experience to perform a wide variety of interrelated childcare assignments and resolve a wide range of problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-04 grade/level position or equivalent in the federal service. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts

OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Child Development regulations, procedures and process.
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative activity plans and special program plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather, maintain and compile pertinent data.
  • Ability to adjust work operations to meet emergency, changing program or production requirements within available resources and with minimum sacrifice of quantity or quality of work.
  • Ability to establish program objectives or performance goals of subordinates and assess progress toward their achievement. Supervision, effective arrangement of space, and proper management of equipment.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
