Administrative duties; creates and updates program templates and official documents; answers phone calls (24/7 phone line) and email inquiries promptly; oversees the facility while on shift and submits work orders and maintenance requests; participates in meetings and walkthroughs with AOC; orders facility and office supplies; participates in trainings, staff meetings, and professional development courses; oversees the office in an EA role while on shift. Supports in loco parentis responsibility of adolescent Senate pages. Accounts for pages whereabouts, including managing a digital platform to track locations, free-time checkouts, and travel; provides guidance and counsel to pages, including emotional support and conflict resolution; presents orientation, provides information, and assists pages as needed. Provides medical first aid and medical and mental health emergency response; accompanies pages for medical appointment or treatment; dispenses prescribed controlled substances to pages. Enforces code of conduct and other program policies, conducts room inspections, assigns demerits and merits and consequences for infractions; provides support to director and deputy director in page disciplinary investigations by participating in interviews and meetings and taking detailed notes of meetings. Coordinates meal logistics, orders and supervises evening and weekend meals, purchases groceries and other necessities, purchases and tracks gift cards for weekend page meals. Plans and supervises field trips designed for the educational, social, recreational, and cultural enrichment of the page experience; executes and plans activities and logistics such as move-in and move-out, movie nights, and spontaneous events; leads activities and delivers information to pages at weekly meetings. Required Work Experience
1-3 years of experience working with student populations or in-residence halls.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.
Training in Emergency Response; Mandatory Reporting; CPR Certification.
Desired Qualifications
The proctor role is non-partisan, and candidates must be able to maintain efficient communication on a team of eight page program staff, with Senate pages, and with our partners in the Senate Page School, party cloakrooms, and other Senate offices.
Quality candidates have strong residence life experience working with adolescent or college age student populations.
Proctors must be able to complete tasks independently while also being a member of a team that works collaboratively on planning and scheduling page program events, field trips, and other functions.
Proctors must complete daily tasks while on shift to ensure work is completed for their own success and for the success of the following staff members to assume duty. Successful proctors must be altruistic, highly responsible, and have strong initiative and drive. They must model appropriate behavior for pages.
Working Conditions
Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption.
Work outside regular work hours (evenings, weekends & holidays).
Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
Moderate activity, biohazard exposure.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree.
