The Cardiac Surgery Section at VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Surgeon with specialty expertise in Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation and management, as well as proficiency in other advanced cardiac surgical procedures, to join on a fee-basis appointment. This position is need-based and does not have a fixed schedule, allowing flexibility to meet patient care demands. The surgeon will perform LVAD implantation and related interventions, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair or replacement, and other complex cardiac surgeries as required. Responsibilities include collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes, participating in pre-operative planning, intraoperative management, and post-operative care, and providing consultative expertise for complex cardiac cases. Candidates must be board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery, possess demonstrated experience in LVAD implantation and advanced cardiac surgery, and hold a current, unrestricted U.S. medical license. VA Boston is a multi-campus tertiary care medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, offering comprehensive patient care, nationally recognized education, and innovative research opportunities.
Work Schedule: This fee-basis position involves intermittent tours based on service needs and provider availability, with possible weekend or evening coverage required unless specifically requested for patient care needs.

LVAD Removal/Removal of VAD, extra-corporeal- $1,100
LVAD Insertion (with CPB)/Insertion of VAD, extra-corporeal, with cardiopulmonary bypass- $1200
LVAD Insertion (without CPB)/Insertion of VAD, extra-corporeal, without cardiopulmonary bypass- $1450
LVAD Replacement/Replacement of VAD, extra-corporeal- $1750
Intra-corporeal VAD Insertion/Insertion of VAD, intra-corporeal- $2,000
