Duties

Help
  • You will exercise broad responsibility and authority for planning and managing the overall emphasis and effectiveness of visual subject matter to be presented, and specific objectives to achieve
  • You will develop each project’s unique customer criteria by coordinating directly with Command leadership, action officers or project officers by determining the theme, design, format and level of graphics support.
  • You will apply comprehensive knowledge and mastery of leading design software Adobe Creative Cloud Applications (i.e.; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for artistic layouts, photo editing, and creation of original and professional layout designs.
  • You will manage publishing, printing and production issues; such as established deadlines, print quality and customer approval.
  • You will participate on external boards, committees and working groups, and is recognized as the subject matter expert (SME) in visual information and printing services.
  • You will assist Directorate and Special Staff with coordination at Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Document Services on large volume, oversized and high speed duplication services.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in Visual Design or related field from an accredited university is desired.

Qualifications

GS-12 LEVEL:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Utilizing expert-level knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite to design, plan, and develop original visual information products without supervision;
2) Producing finished artwork associated with a wide range of materials, including digital presentations, printed publications, illustrations, and complex exhibits;
3) Collaborating across directorates to produce subject matter information using a variety of visual elements that will convey the intended message to diverse audiences;
4) Serving as a technical authority on visual communication, advising customers on appropriate design application for projects and recommending most feasible solution for challenging situations; and
5) Consulting from a designer's perspective while incorporating Joint Combatant Command Experience to help develop strong, visually appealing products that directly support unique mission requirements.

GS-11 LEVEL:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite to design, plan, and develop visual information products;
2) Producing artwork associated with a wide range of materials, including digital presentations, printed publications, and illustrations;
3) Collaborating across directorates to produce subject matter information using a variety of visual elements that will convey the intended message to diverse audiences;
and
4) Consulting from a designer's perspective while incorporating Joint Combatant Command Experience to help develop strong, visually appealing products that directly support unique mission requirements.

Experience must be in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position being filled. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

Education

FOR GS-11 LEVEL: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.
OR
  • Successful completion of three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.
OR
