Duties

Help

Performs daily maintenance in range equipment and firearms. Strictly enforces posted safety rules and range procedures. Ensures range flags and barricades are placed properly and notifies Range Control prior to firing. Issues rifles, pistols, targets, and necessary safety equipment. Responsible for inventory of firearms. Provides actual shooting demonstrations, reloads shotshells, issues shotguns and ammunition. Collects fees and is responsible for daily receipts. Maximizes the use of available resources to provide the highest quality program possible. Keep schedules of events on tournaments and intramural sports. Performs a variety of administrative duties associated with the assigned operations. Ensures that all reports, correspondence, personnel actions, and publicity requests are processed accurately and in a timely manner. Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of recreation aids. Ensures the work is completed in compliance with established procedures and instructions.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

Must be a competent instructor in fundamental marksmanship principles and safe firearms handling. Must have extensive knowledge of the functioning and safe cleaning methods of a wide variety of firearms. Must be certified or be able to obtain certification by range Control and Range Safety Officer. Must have knowledge of current rules, regulations, and procedures for operation a live fire range and skill in handling firearms and ammunition. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must have the ability to obtain a government driver license and a weapons permit.

FOR POSITIONS INVOLVING FIREARMS/AMMUNITION ONLY:
This is a ¿covered position¿ for the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act for Department of the Navy civilian personnel.  Due to contact with firearms, or ammunition in accomplishing work, DD Form 2760 certifying whether or not a ¿qualifying conviction¿ for a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence has occurred MUST be completed.  The continuing obligation to notify the immediate supervisor of any qualifying conviction through completion of DD Form 2760 is REQUIRED. Ability to successfully obtain/maintain a Tier 3 background investigation.

Note: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject
to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity,
reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage
to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations. A positive
drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
