Duties

  1. Serves as a DGS crew member in the IMINT exploitation section, responsible for IMINT operations and production affecting time critical targeting (TCT), direct threat warning, battle damage assessment, combat identification, combat search and rescue, multi-INT correlation, threat analysis, mapping, intelligence preparation of the battle space, situation monitoring, and mission reporting. Provides IMINT correlation of data from multiple ISR platforms and intelligence products. Requests dynamic sensor retasking in order to exploit time critical information not originally entered into the collection plan. Assesses the data and provides cross-sensor cueing/tips-offs to other platforms and exploitation sections improving multi-INT correlation. Updates Air Force DCGS (Distributed Common Ground Station) components and C4I nodes on IMINT findings.

    (2) Evaluates and interprets raw IMINT information received from all sources. Assesses present or future value and need of information and forwards to National Agencies, Joint Commands, Air Force MAJCOMs, and AOCs. Establishes meaning of information alters or adds significance to information to tend to conform or refute existing estimates of situations. Conducts studies and assembles factual data as required for analysis and interpretation. Participates in pre-mission conferences to outline mission objectives, potential threats, and possible outcomes.

    (3) Interprets, exploits, and plots information derived from imagery, establishing specific data such as distance, cubic capacity of buildings, tanks and storage facilities, line of communications, transportation systems, number, type and specific location of facilities and marshaling areas, troop movements and contour of terrain and man-made features. Indicates changes revealed in current photographs in comparison with previous ones and in relation to other pertinent reference material. Plots simulated or actual bomb impact points and indirect bomb damage assessment (BDA). Prepares BDA reports; produces uncontrolled photographic mosaics, control charts, scribed overlays, procedure charts, maps, and aerial photo overlays to include details such as location of airports, facilities, defenses and other elements or features not ordinarily shown on maps and charts. Uses raw Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery and other sources to accomplish time critical taskings received from National Agencies, Joint Commands, Air Force MAJCOMs, and AOCs.

    (4) Prepares post-mission reports from IMINT analysis of patterns, trends, and characteristics for general intelligence and operational community consumption. Prepares and evaluates finished reports relative to IMINT activities. Briefs analysis findings and estimates to superiors and mission planners. Publishes finished reports and documents for use by decision-makers in the squadron, AOC, Air Force MAJCOMs, Joint Commands, and the National Agencies. Researches, analyzes and plans IMINT exploitation activities in preparation for operational missions. Utilizes allotted resources for IMINT operations and analysis activities. Communicates with other intelligence departments and agencies to share data and techniques, findings, and planning for future operations.

    (5) Works with other crew members to ensure the IMINT exploitation section maintains a capability to provide timely and accurate operational intelligence support and fully trained intelligence personnel during peacetime and contingency operations. Coordinates with the Gaining Command on operational intelligence elements needed to carry out coordination and liaison with counterparts and colleagues in such other major command intelligence organizations as Air Combat Command (ACC) and Air Mobility Command (AMC), Air National Guard Bureau Headquarters (NGB), United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE), Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) and such other governmental agencies as Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Security Agency (NSA), U.S. Space Command (SPACECOM), Air Intelligence Agency (AIA), U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Represents the organization at interagency conferences and meetings that deal with specialty functions and internal training requirements at the unit level.

    (6) To enhance the DGS crew's mission readiness, maintains a thorough knowledge of all aspects of internal IMINT training. Represents the unit in making agreements and commitments within the assigned scope of his/her functional specialty. Provides guidance and assistance to unit and Gaining Command Intelligence specialists and serves to coordinate on projects jointly undertaken by the unit, gaining command, and other organizations.

*This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition*

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 1-year specialized experience, education or training equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Must have experience, education, or training which involved detailed knowledge of organizations and their functions in logistical support (i.e., supply, maintenance, quality assurance, facilities). Experience planning and organizing work assignments.

master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related
