Duties

Help

You will serve as an Administrative Assistant and be responsible for advising the supervisor of important office issues arising during the supervisor's absence, and brings significant items in reports, files, and correspondence to the supervisor's attention.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Analyzing comments on new or different externally developed administrative program requirements, identifying impact of same on existing operations.
  • Drafting new or revised existing, clerical and administrative support processes and procedures.
  • Reviewing final form materials, submitted for Command signature, from lower organizational units for overall clerical and administrative accuracy and conformance to established format.
  • Overseeing the work of other immediate office clerical or other support staff.
  • Distributing work, checks on progress, and reviews finished work for adequacy and timeliness.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-8 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis.

  • Experience producing typed materials including forms, memoranda, correspondence, reports and similar narrative and columnar material, from draft typed materials, disk files, electronic network, and/or handwritten copy.
  • Experience maintaining procurement files in accordance with Federal regulations and agency directives.
  • Experience conducting independent research and analysis of information found in a broad range of published and unpublished sources in order to monitor or respond to signification internal and external requests.
