About the position: This position will be assigned to the Langley Inn on JBLE-Langley AFB, VA.

This is a Regular Full Time position that is guaranteed 35 hours per week but can be scheduled for up to 40 hours per week.

The purpose of this position is to supervise, through subordinate supervisors, a custodial and laborer staff involved in the cleaning and maintenance of transient lodging facilities.

Duties

Help

  • This position is for Lodging operations with 175 to 799 rooms. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in planning, organizing, conducting, and managing a medium to large-expanded lodging housekeeping program. Indirectly supervise a work force of employees primarily classified as Custodial Workers, NA-3566-01 and Laborers, NA-3566-02 through subordinate supervisors.
  • Formulates, implements, coordinates and controls a comprehensive lodging housekeeping program. Assists in determining long-range, intermediate, and short-range program goals and policies independently or jointly with higher management. Assists in developing and implementing organizational structures and operating plans and procedures to achieve program goals, monitors effectiveness and efficiency of operations within the established framework and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Accountable for the quantity and quality of work performed by assigned employees to include: hires, promotes, motivates, disciplines, and separates employees. Assists in assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of subordinates, and evaluates their work performance; approving or disapproving sick leave, annual leave or other absences from work; planning, scheduling, and coordinating work operations, solving problems related to work supervised; determining equipment and supplies needed; and explaining and gaining the support of subordinates for management policy and goals; and for dealing effectively with employee and representatives of personnel on employee suggestions, complaints, grievances and other matters.
  • Assist in establishing personnel management policies for the housekeeping operation in line with the personnel policies of the AF and local lodging operations. Delegates authority to subordinate supervisors and holds them responsible for the performance of their
    respective organizational units. Responsible for maintaining documentation to prepare as needed budget information on information such as, housekeeping personnel expenses, cleaning supplies, and resale sundry stock.
  • Develops and maintains standards for cleanliness and sanitation. Standards encompass such areas as frequency of cleaning; methods, procedures, and safety precautions to be followed; selection, measurement and proper use of housekeeping and cleaning supplies; and use and maintenance of housekeeping equipment.
  • Monitors performance-based recognition and internal special lodging awards programs for the housekeeping staff. As required, may clean and restock lodging facilities and related areas.
  • Drives vehicles in the performance of daily duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

  • Experience demonstrating: Knowledge of management methods and techniques; ability to delegate work; technical expertise in
    lodging housekeeping operation and program management; ability to develop procedures which mesh the specific goals of the
    housekeeping program with the broad overall goals of the lodging operation; ability to work with other managers to coordinate
    respective programs; ability to analyze problems and make decisions considering a wide range of factors and requirements, e.g.,
    standards budgetary restrictions, public and labor relations, EEO, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, justifying program goals and plans, and motivating employees; knowledge of applicable rules and regulations in areas such as budget, personnel, and labor relations, and ability to develop operating procedures implementing these requirements; knowledge of housekeeping methods and techniques; knowledge of various floor, wall, and ceiling covering materials, and developments concerning new cleaning agents, techniques, and equipment.
Physical Effort:
  • The work involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; running powered scrubbers and buffers; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying wastebaskets; frequently pushing carts, weighing more than 100 pounds, loaded with dirty laundry or wastepaper, and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Where supervision includes NA-02 positions, moderately heavy physical effort is required which includes occasionally lifting moving, and carrying objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Normally works indoors in a well-lighted and heated facility. Exposed to dirt, disagreeable odors, and possibility of minor injuries (cuts and bruises).
