This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Pine Bluff Arsenal. This position serves as a Pipefitter (Engineering Equipment Operator) providing arsenal-wide pipefitting install and repair services.

Duties

Help
  • Provide maintenance services involving the installation or repair of high-pressure pipe systems and equipment.
  • Examines blueprints before laying out the routing, placement, pitch, incline, and elevation of systems and equipment.
  • Prepares assemblies for installation.
  • Performs work related to munitions manufacturing piping system installation and maintenance.
  • Monitor power boilers to identify, prevent, and fix problems.
  • Perform pipefitting work using backhoes and track hoes.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter (Engineering Equipment Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common duties which include 1. Pipe fitting installation and repair services for manufacturing facilities; 2.Testing systems and equipment to ensure proper operations; 3. Analyzing defects in piping and power boiler systems equipment to corrects deficiencies; 4. Performing preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment; and 5. Operating backhoes and track hoes. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The pipefitter makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. The position requires them to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The pipefitter frequently handles, lifts, carries, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, they may lift and carry items that weight over 50 pounds and will be required to wear protective equipment, e.g., respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, is it usually dirty, dusty, and greasy and may include inclement weather and extreme temperature. The pipefitter is sometimes required to installations and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. The pipefitter is frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones. When working in munitions manufacturing areas, employee is subjected to the possibility of hazards from toxic chemical and explosives items.
