This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Assist physicians and team members during a variety of highly complex, potentially life-threatening invasive cardiovascular procedures on stable and unstable patients.
  • Ensure patients are well-informed of the procedure and understands circumstances that will occur during procedures.
  • Clean instruments and maintain sterile instruments inventory.
  • Assists in identifying and selecting patients procedure-specific catheters, supplies, equipment, and contrast medium and volume and then manipulates or changes supplies or instruments in order to meet the requirements of the procedure.
  • Attend to patients safety and comfort needs before, during, and after procedures.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements. as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One-year of specialized experience which includes functioning as a cardiovascular technician in a cardiac catheterization laboratory; assisting physician in direct support of cardiac catheter-based procedures; operating hemodynamic monitoring systems and maintaining a sterile field. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education:
One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Cardiovascular Science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Education
