This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Set up a variety of complex respiratory equipment such as volume ventilators for patients in critical care needs.
  • Monitor tube cuff pressure, inspect equipment and patients to ensure proper; functioning of ventilator.
  • Calibrate complex respiratory equipment, Identifies and correct mechanical malfunction of equipment used in the respiratory therapy service.
  • Prepare, calibrate, interface, and operate all equipment used in cardiopulmonary procedures.
  • Interpret data obtained from tests to organize and prepare completed patients charts.
  • Develop plans for weaning patients from ventilators.
  • Monitor patients closely to avoid incidents and to alter care plan as necessary.
  • Monitor and interpret values such as pulmonary artery pressure.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements. as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45lbs in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has been designated mission essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing and analyzing respiratory therapy polysomnography tests; continually assessing patients with cardiopulmonary conditions using data from physical examinations and diagnostics equipment; develop plan for weaning patients from ventilators. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Respiratory Therapy. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
