Duties

Help
  • Perform a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury.
  • Explain the ultrasound examining process to the patient.
  • Extend and/or modify the procedure to ensure full and accurate information.
  • Select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment.
  • Train radiologists, physician assistants, students, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques and equipment.
  • Perform operator level maintenance and care of equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Management Prefers Applicants that are Registered Ultrasound Technologist (RDMS) and/or have a certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-S).
  • Required to work uncommon tours of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include on call, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Required to obtain necessary immunizations (i.e., Hepatitis B, annual influenza) unless exempted by a physician.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of ultrasound examinations of pediatric patients; setting up, adjusting, and/or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment; and assisting Cardiologist or Physician in reading and/or evaluating pediatric ultrasound results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7)
