Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Performs electrical work in connection with the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment for approximately 50 electrical structures and maintenance, repair and installation of air conditioning, and heating systems.

Duties

Help
  • Independently plan and lay out electrical systems, determines type and size of materials needed and completes installation, modifications and repairs with little check during progress of work.
  • Perform electrical work in connection with the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, clean, repair, test, and adjust light sockets, lighting fixtures, fans, switches, office and heating appliances, fire alarms, clocks, rheostats, thermostats and electrical drills, grinders and shop equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair major electrical items and equipment which have complex electronic-electrical circuitry, e.g., fire alarm systems, water pressure switches, electro-temperature thermostats, relays, and audible signaling devices
  • Basic understanding of the purpose and use of a preventative maintenance plan, and knowledge of how to execute scheduled manufacturer planned maintenance.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must possess, maintain and be able to retain a current valid state or DC drivers' license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain, maintain and retain a valid government vehicle operator's license. May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) of 10% or more may be required.-
  • Must wear uniform IAW AR 670-10 and local policy.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ELECTRICIAN ~ without more than normal supervision. maintaining and repairing of electrical systems, diagnosing system or equipment malfunctions; determining if faulty equipment is serviceable or needs replacing. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The electrician makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and where the parts of the systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The electrician frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally over 20 Pounds. When working with AC, refrigeration and heating systems, the equipment in the system is usually large and must be maneuvered into and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. The incumbent carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. The electrician is exposed to extreme temperatures when working outside, in attics, manholes, and crawl spaces. There is occasional exposure to broken bones, electrical shock and burns and frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises. On occasion is required to wear protective clothing such as eye goggles, insulated gloves and safety shoes. To reduce the dangers and irritations from exposure to harmful substances and conditions the employee follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, face masks, goggles, and protective clothing. The incumbent is exposed to larger amounts of escaping gases when making emergency repairs on ACs, refrigeration and heating units.
