Duties

Help
  • Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant.
  • Instructs groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs, such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, and challenge course activities.
  • Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.
  • Effectively communicate to participants who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Teaches children as well as adults.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.
  • If water rafting is part of the duties, satisfactory completion of required Raft Guide Training must be completed within three weeks of appointment. Failure to successfully completed required training may result in separation.
  • Physical and health assessment are required.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
Experience, education and/or specialized training sufficient to demonstrate knowledge and skill in Outdoor Recreation.
Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.
