Help

The Chief Quality Officer (Office of Quality & Patient Safety) is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality medical services at the South Texas VA Health Care System. This position provides clinical expertise with essential administrative functions to ensure optimal patient care and operation efficiency within the facility.

  • Participates and manages the oversight of programs related to patient safety, continuous survey readiness, performance improvement, data collection, data analysis, and data reporting.
  • Must be knowledge regarding conducting and reporting quality improvement measures, including a sound knowledge of accreditation programs such as: Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Ascellon Long-Term Care Survey Group, College of American Pathologists, American Association of Blood Banks, FDA, Commission on Cancer Program, and Comprehensive Homeless Center.
  • Provides effective leadership of Primary Care Services through collaboration of other executive team members. Ability to integrate customer service, including patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to meet continuous measurements and improvement of the quality of care for patients with brain injuries, diagnostic medicine, spinal cord injuries and sports medicine.
  • Provides clinical supervision for health care professionals such as Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians and other clinical staff.
  • Admits, performs history and physical examinations, work-up, diagnose, prepare treatment plans for adult patients, age = 18 years to treat various common and complex illnesses, diseases and functional disorders of the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, metabolic, musculoskeletal, hematopoietic, gastroenteric, and genitourinary systems.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (Full-time), 0700 - 1600. (May have to work weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

  • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Residency Training: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience and/or training in methodologies of Quality Improvement
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and accreditation processes, and policy development
  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading diverse physician and non physician teams.
  • Experience leading change to support organizational performance in evolving environments.
  • Experience (2 years or higher) in (some, or all of the following) Quality management, risk management, patient safety, infection prevention.
