This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Help
  • Perform inspections to assess potential health hazards in the work environment.
  • Recommend solutions to potential or current health hazards in the work environment.
  • Conduct assessments ensuring buildings are in compliance with government health.
  • Perform respirator testing, providing training on usage and care.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position may require 24/7 on-call duty.
  • Incumbent must be able to possess or obtain and maintain Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) Certification within six months of hire date.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify for GS-7 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) helping identify workplace safety hazards and 2) helping with independent inspections.

Education: At least one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences. (Note: You MUST include a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education (Note: You must include a copy of your transcripts.)

To qualify for GS-8 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes using industrial hygiene concepts and practices by performing independent inspections and evaluating hazardous work conditions.

Education: at least one and one half (1 1/2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences. (Note: You MUST include a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Experience and Education (Note: You must include a copy of your transcripts.)

To qualify for GS-9 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) conducting Industrial Hygiene surveys, 2) analyzing survey results, and 3) educating the workforce on potential health hazards.

Education: completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or at least two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Physical or Life Sciences. Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
