The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Infrastructure Engineering Division (IED) is seeking an IT Specialist (Network) to join its team. The IT Specialist (Network) provides national network planning, architecture design, and engineering services. The incumbent supports several programs, including, but not limited to local area network (LAN) health services and segmentation, national wireless services, and court moves.

The duties of the position may include, but are not limited to:

1. Leading teams to produce network architecture artifacts depicting communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, and transmission and signaling links and protocols.
2. Executing procedures and coordinating corrective actions to optimize network performance.
3. Participating and leadingefforts to design, install, and troubleshoot network systems, including wireless, to meet the organization's functional objectives.
4. Performing activities to configure and maintain physical/logical network components.
5. Performing service management actions to support capacity and resource planning.
6. Assessing network risks and developing contingency plans.
7. Supporting the development, creation, and maintenance of current network device configurations, circuit information, and operations network diagrams, including developing database requirements. and establishing data backups.
8. Developing processes to inventory data network equipment and performing periodic inventory audits to ensure switches, routers, and other devices and applications are properly configured, used, and maintained.
9. Performing detailed router scripting and filtering to manage network traffic.
10. Mentoring new team members to ensure a smooth transition from learning environment to daily production environment and potentially providing formal training.
11. Developing job aides and other tools to assist engineers improve overall quality of service.

Qualifications

Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALLthe following areas:

• • Network infrastructure and hardware;
  • Infrastructure devices, including switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, and firewalls; and
  • Designing, monitoring, and repairing local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN)
