Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the grounds and turf of golf course in playing condition.

Duties

Help

  • Responsible for the general care and upkeep of golf tees, fairways, bunkers, hazards, putting greens, golf flags, sand traps, and other facilities on golf courses, lawn bowling greens, and other special lawn areas.
  • Oversees and guides lower level employees in the cutting and watering of course.
  • Helps in diagnosing lawn and grass diseases, and applies proper curative treatments.
  • Rakes sand traps, and replaces with fresh sand as may be required.
  • May operate a variety of vehicles and or tractors, using attachments to till, cultivate and grade new turf areas.
  • Cuts turf on green and tee areas using hand and power mower.
  • Connects hose and sprinkler systems at designated points to irrigate turf.
  • Ensures areas are policed and that trash and garbage are disposed of properly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Work is done outdoors and incumbent is exposed to hot sun, sometimes chilly or rainy weather; dirt, dust, mud, and sometimes chemical spray and dusts.
  • Must wear issued protective equipment.

Qualifications

  • Must have a working knowledge of ground maintenance and accepted methods used in seeding, mowing and replacing grasses used on golf courses and bowling greens.
  • Must have knowledge of soils, chemicals, equipment used for maintenance and upkeep of golf courses and bowling greens; common grass diseases and pests and environmentally approved methods used for therir conrol and eradication.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain certificate of completion of environmental training.
  • A current driver's license is required when operating vehicles.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

All individuals involved in the provision of child care services on a Department of Navy (DON) installation or in a DON-sanctioned program must complete the Installation Records Check (IRC). The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.

Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.

Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
