Duties

Help
  • install, repair and maintenance of interior water and sewer systems, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Estimate material requirements, locate and spot opening through which pipes are to pass or where equipment will be installed; determine and mark guidelines.
  • Thread and bend pipe; assemble pipe sections and fittings, hangs or lavs assemblies in position.
  • Places and connect air, sewer, and water fixtures and facilities.
  • Install and repair pressure reducing valves(80 to 120 psi).
  • Repair or replace hot water heaters, hot water storage tank, hot water generators, pipes carrying water to and from other equipment, hot water circulating pumps, etc.
  • Install plastic pipe: install water meters inside buildings.
  • Clears difficult stoppages in drainpipe.
  • Repair piping on hydraulic-lift trucks.
  • Winterize or de-winterize building by turning water on and off and checking facilities for proper condition to be left unused or for proper operations.
  • Repair and install backflow prevention and double single check valve pipes.
  • Repair and install commercial washers and dryers.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Employee may be assigned work both on and off Fort Bragg as the mission requires. "Off Fort Bragg" may include travel as directed by the Government. It may include deployment of varying lengths.
  • May be required to participate in training exercises as assigned.
  • Performs all phases, on all types of back flow valves including annual testing and must have current experience.
  • Must be a licensed plumber.
  • Incumbent is subject to pre-deployment out-processing, and performing duties in CONUS and OCONUS locations away from home station.
  • This position may require a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber ~ without more than normal supervision.
I have the ability to perform common tasks in interpreting building plans, blueprints, sketches, and etc. to install, repair and maintenance of interior water and sewer systems, fixtures, and equipment. Estimate material requirements, locate and spot opening through which pipes are to pass or where equipment will be installed; determine and mark guidelines. Thread and bend pipe; assemble pipe sections and fittings, hangs or lavs assemblies in position. Place and connect air, sewer, and water fixtures and facilities such as water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, bathtubs, drinking fountains, launder tubs, urinals, dishwashers, sterilizers, autoclaves, hot and cold water pipes, sump pumps, sprinkler systems and dental units. Install and repair pressure reducing valves. Repair or replace hot water heaters, hot water storage tank, hot water generators, pipes carrying water to and from other equipment, hot water circulating pumps, etc. Install plastic pipe: install water meters inside buildings. Clears difficult stoppages in drainpipe. Repair piping on hydraulic-lift trucks. Winterize or de-winterize building by turning water on and off and checking facilities for proper condition to be left unused or for proper operations. Repair and install backflow prevention and double single check valve pipes. Repair and install commercial washers and dryers. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort - Makes repairs and installations from ladders and safety shoring, to reach parts of systems that are in hard-to-reach places or buried underground. The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds.
  • Working Conditions- Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee will be required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty and greasy; and in close quarters such as manholes. Employee is exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, scrapes, burns and infections. Frequently is required to make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Employee may be required to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to, coveralls, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hat, respirators, gloves and safety shoes.
