The Supervisory Recreation Therapist at Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC) is a clinical professional aligned under the Assistant Director. CMCVAMC is a level 1b facility involving 3 primary locations: Community Living Center (CLC), serving long term care, short term care, hospice and palliative care, rehabilitation, respite care, and dementia care.
The Medical Center (MC), serving acute Behavioral Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medical-Surgical, and outpatients when indicated; and Snyder House (SH), serving Community Behavioral Health. RT provides therapeutic and leisure services to Veterans to maximize their functional potential and Quality of Life. Veterans served have a variety of disabilities, diagnoses, and conditions, including orthopedic, neurological, dementia, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, behavioral health, substance abuse, PTSD, visual and hearing impairments, spinal cord injury, respiratory illness, polytrauma, and many others, often with multiple diagnoses and co-morbidities.

Basic Requirements:

Qualification standards for the Supervisory Recreation Therapist are outlined in VA Handbook 5005, Part II Appendix G60, Recreation and Creative Arts Therapist GS-0638. These qualifications include U.S. citizenship, bachelors or higher degree in Recreation Therapy from an accredited institution, appropriate experience, and mandatory professional certification as CTRS by NCTRC. A Supervisory Recreation Therapist who fails to maintain the required certification and/or registration must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment. Grade Determinations: Must have at least one year at the GS 11 level as a GS-0638 Recreation Therapist
