Duties

Help
  • Ensures the overall quality and operating efficiency of the Ultrasound Services.
  • Oversees the organization and tracking of all affected patients coordinating with multi-disciplinary care providers.
  • Performs complex diagnostic ultrasound examinations/procedures utilizing two-dimensional, three dimensional, four dimensional, flex view, color and pulsed Doppler.
  • Establishes, implements and modifies operational and patient management guidelines to ensure continued accreditation status and quality patient care.
  • Establishes and reviews operating instructions for ultrasound procedures in accordance with the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) and Joint Commission standards.
  • Attends in-service training to stay up to date on new sonographic procedures, technology, and techniques.
  • Provides training on diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging to a variety of hospital personnel to ensure quality patient care, ranging from registered nurses, resident physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Preferred but not required: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) Ultrasound Certification; Graduate AMA approved School of Radiological Technology.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: experience performing a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations; OR ability to recognize medically significant findings during ultrasound examinations; OR experience assisting providers in reading or evaluating ultrasound results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
