Duties

Help
  • Independently plans and carries out the duties of Key Custodian in accordance with standing instructions, previous training or accepted practices.
  • Provides technical advice and guidance to Division Chiefs, supervisors and subordinate units on setting up and operating key and lock custodianship.
  • Plans, organizes, and develops inspection and training schedules, advises management on key and lock custodial problems and determines non-compliance with appropriate regulations.
  • Primary point of contact and responsible for identifying requirements for the procurement, receipt, issue and 100% accountability of all keys and locks assigned to Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA).
  • Serves as CAAA's point of contact for seal and access control of containers.
  • Ensures only authorized personnel are issuing/receiving keys.
  • Processes request thru Security Office for command background screening on personnel to determine reliability before authorizing issue, receipt and control of keys to high security risk areas.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 4 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • Employee may be recalled during non-duty hours to assist in investigations.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing inspections concerning keys, locking devices, and key lockers or maintaining files to ensure accurate record keeping of access controls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NK-01/GS-04).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
