DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is located in the Automotive Craft Center which provides auto skills development opportunities to the Barksdale community. This position is established to provide administrative and technical supervision of the Automotive Center which includes the maintenance and repair of privately owned and Service Squadron vehicle, parts resale, and car wash facility. Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the Auto Center staff. Makes work assignments, defines standards of quality to be met and explains work requirements, methods and procedures as required. Renders guidance and advice to subordinate employees on all technical aspects, such as repair and modification. Reviews work for compliance with the specifications, trade techniques and timely accomplishment. Interprets and applies manufacturers repair manuals and technical specifications, diagnostic codes, computer printouts and environmental and safety manuals to ensure completed work meets specifications. Controls work in progress and determines by spot checks that repairs made by patrons and staff meet safety requirements. Counsels employees when personnel problems develop, evaluates employee work performance, approves leave. Plans and recommends program ideas and changes to the Arts & Crafts Manager to improve and/or increase center productivity and efficiency. Implements both non-appropriated and appropriated budgets proposed by Community Support Flight Chief. Conducts inventories, initiates purchases and maintains tool crib and expendable/non-expendable tool items. Is the primary property, funds and facility custodian. Collects and supervises the collection of authorized sales receipts, usage fees and service charges and is responsible for the maintenance, repair cleanliness and attractiveness of the automotive center structures and grounds. Determines training requirements; may develop formal and informal instructional programs. Conducts both formal and on-the-spot training for auto staff and patrons. Able to instruct in the use of valve grinders, drill presses, computerized engine analyzer and other tools and equipment related to automotive system testing, repair and maintenance. Repairs components and systems, such as engines, brakes, and suspensions or may tear down and rebuild or replace components and systems. Instructs, advises and assists patrons in safety, tool usage and automotive technology.

  • This position requires the incumbent have an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a Master Automobile Technician is highly desired.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Qualifying Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Requires experience in the functions managed by an automotive crafts center manager (i.e. automotive maintenance and engine repair; automotive parts resale; car wash facility). Knowledge of makeup, operation and installation of systems and assemblies to troubleshoot and repair. Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, diagnostic codes, safety manuals and the ability to operate electronic test equipment. Experience must include responsibility or supervision of the various functions of an auto crafts center operation. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a Master Automobile Technician is highly desired.
Condition(s) of Employment: Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required.

Education
