Help
  • Provide input to the District Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and assist in conducting the Commander's public affairs program.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate with subject matter experts on the development of presentations and message points for key issues and enhance staff and employee situation awareness of key issues through a variety of command products.
  • Assist the PAO in overseeing the District command information program in the development and management of appropriate e-technology and traditional systems to keep employees situationally-aware and informed.
  • Provide input to the PAO in managing the District's media services program to include media response procedures, media spokesperson training, traditional media services, and e-technology support features.
  • Provide input to the PAO in overseeing the development of public information materials to include traditional media as well as e-technology and Internet products.
  • Represent the District as an active member and officer in various community and social service organizations with the authority to disseminate factual information concerning the District, its policies and programs.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) assisting in a public affairs program on the development of presentations and message points for key issues; and 2) providing input for a media services program to include media response procedures, media spokesperson services and/or e-technology support. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) two years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years; return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • Current, permanent USACE employees who are selected for this position will receive administrative return rights for the duration of the initial assignment and for any extensions up to 3 years, with potential to request further return rights to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Return rights for non-USACE Army employees will be negotiated upon selection. If return rights are approved, a return rights agreement/statement of understanding will be required to be completed prior to appointment.
