Duties

Help
  • Serve as a food service worker performing a variety of non-supervisory duties, where the primary duty is in food service, food preparation and cleaning.
  • Clean manual and electrical utensils.
  • Make a variety of beverages, fruit and vegetable salads.
  • Deliver food carts to the hospital wards for patients.
  • Clean and set up dining facility.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position may require to work overtime, holidays, weekends, evenings and on-call.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". Incumbent will be required to insure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center’s operations during ALL hazards emergency situations.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position works on an alternate work schedule. The incumbent will be assigned to rotating shifts between 0430-1300, 0500-1330 and 0530-1400 hours, seven days a week, to include evenings, holidays, weekends, and early and late shifts.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience setting up cafeteria lines and dining room tables, washing dishes, pots, and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical equipment, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment and plating food on a tray - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Efforts: Work involves light and heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, such as food, food supplies, garbage/trash, and occasionally the weights may exceed that amount. Work involves constant walking, standing, and frequent stooping and bending.
  • Working Conditions: Work areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy, e.g., noisy kitchen and dishwashing areas. Worker is exposed to the danger of minor cuts, bruises, and burns from equipment. There is danger of slipping on floors, which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverages have been spilled. Worker is exposed to steam hot water, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
