Help
  • Supervises a staff of 3-12 employees, assigns and reviews work assignments on a daily, weekly, or longer basis.
  • Plans work schedules, approves or disapproves leave, determines performance objectives and rates performance.
  • Execute recreation events, programs and services to meet the recreational needs of a diverse patronage, including a variety of multi disciplinary events which involve a variety of activities.
  • Recommends items of supplies, materials, prizes, decorations, refreshments, and equipment needed for program functions.
  • Assures that proper security measures are taken to safeguard monies, property, equipment and facility.

  • This position requires additional background checks that are necessary to allow for the incumbent to supervise minor employees working in the facility.
  • Selected candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays on a regular basis or as needed.
  • A medical examination is required.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
1. Must have knowledge of wide range of recreation and sports activities, organization and structure of military units and installation sports program objectives, policies, methods and procedures to plan, organize, and coordinate activities, assist, guide and motivate military staff in carrying out their responsibilities.
2. Must have basic understanding of budget and supply functions in order to prepare input and justification of funding for supplies and equipment.
3. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing (English).
4. Work experience or education directly related to the duties to be performed.
a. Experience must include a minimum of three (3) years of general work experience, with at least one (1) year comparable to the GS-04 grade level.
Typical responsibilities at the GS-04 level include:
i. Assists patrons in use of the facility by checking out equipment, providing safety instructions, demonstrating new equipment, teaching classes, etc.
ii. Plans, conducts, publicize and arrange support for special events, social activities, tournaments and related functions.
iii. Leads the work of other employees.
iv. Passes on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor and starts work.
v. Distributes and balances work-load assuring that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
vi. Answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, and directives.
vii. Provides leadership, guidance and oversight in program operations.
viii. Provides on-the job training to new employees.
b. Education is considered to be the successful completion of a bachelor's degree program with a major in one of the following fields: outdoor recreation and parks, recreation management, youth, public, urban, or community recreation, or recreation for special populations.*

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
1. Possess at least one (1) year of experience working in Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) that incudes the utilization of systems like RecTrac and FMWR financial reporting such as Daily Activity Reports (DARs).
2. Possess at least one (1) year experience providing oversight, planning and executing events for 50+ patrons to include concerts, comedy shows, holiday events, Soldier Family Readiness Group (SFRG) events, etc.
3. Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
