Help
  • Use a GPS database to observe motor vehicle activity and to optimize delivery routes.
  • Receive printed material, prioritize and sort deliveries, and load material onto delivery vehicles.
  • Respond to and resolve routine recurring discrepancies concerning date and time of delivery, etc.
  • Assign work tasks to team members, ensuring an equitable distribution of workload and adherence to established deadlines.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in proper working condition, reporting malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
  • Provide on-the-job training and instruction to employees in proper material handling techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  • Oversee a team of Printing Plant Workers responsible for the loading, delivery, and pickup of Congressional printed material.

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.

  • Physical Efforts: The incumbent may frequently lift light to heavy items weighing approximately 20 pounds and occasionally may lift cartons and/or skids weighing over 50 pounds while loading and unloading delivery vehicles.
  • Work Conditions: The incumbent may be exposed to all weather conditions when working in loading area or outside, and is exposed to the possibility of accidents.
  • Selectee may be required to pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
  • Selectee must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Printing Plant Worker Leader (Motor Vehicle Operator), KA-5703-00, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Printing Plant Worker Leader (Motor Vehicle Operator).

Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, #73: Ability to lead and supervise to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which appears as question 2 in the online questionnaire. Job Element #73, Ability to lead and supervise, encompasses the following knowledge and ability:

  • Managing workflow to ensure timely delivery of jobs.
  • Dispatching operators to move printed material, ensuring timely pickup and delivery.
  • Knowledge of GPO messenger processes relating to availability and time requirements of printed matter.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of training/experience may not be used for this position.

The GPO offers transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for suitability. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
