Duties

Help
  • Serve patrons, restocking, portioning food items, providing sanitation for dishes and pots/pans and occasional cashiering.
  • Load and deliver food trays to the hospital wards.
  • Set up and replenishing foods and beverages as directed.
  • Set up dining room for service and remove used utensils and dishes to dishwashing area.
  • Unload supply trucks and place supplies in proper storage area and arrange supplies to workstations.
  • Load dishes in dishwasher; and stack and stores dishes when cleaned in designated area.
  • Operate a cash register receiving payment for meals.
  • Reconcile receipts with register tapes jointly with Shift Supervisor.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations; shift hours vary from 0500-1330, 0600-1430, or 1030 to 1900.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the common Food Service activities setting up cafeteria lines and dining room tables, washing dishes, pots and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical equipment, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment and plating food on a tray under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work involves constant walking and standing. Employee must bend and stoop in loading trays on delivery carts. Frequently lifts over 60 pounds (cases of food and milk containers).
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in noisy kitchen and dining room areas; involves continuous standing and walking, mainly on concrete floors. Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; exposed to dirt, grease and water in cleaning tasks. Incumbent is subject to extremes of temperature in bringing supplies from walk-in refrigerators. There is danger of slipping on wet floors which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped
