Help
  • Adjudicate Suitability Cases – Review investigations and referrals to determine suitability for federal employment, identifying and evaluating issues under OPM guidelines.
  • Draft Suitability Actions – Prepare correspondence, notices of proposed action and final determination letters for complex or contested cases involving unfavorable suitability actions.
  • Conduct Case Analysis – Analyze derogatory information, assess conflicting evidence, and apply relevant regulations, executive orders, and precedent decisions.
  • Provide Guidance and Support – Respond to inquiries from applicants, appointees, employees, agency personnel, and other stakeholders, as well as offer advice on suitability policies and processes.
  • Contribute to Program Initiatives – Participate in projects, policy development, and training to enhance adjudication consistency and government-wide reciprocity.

Qualifications

For the GS-11: Applicants must have one of the following:

  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level (or equivalent) performing all of the following: Applying and interpreting personnel security and suitability regulations, policies, and executive orders to review and adjudicate complex or sensitive cases. Evaluating and resolving issues involving derogatory information to determine appropriate suitability outcomes. Drafting and issuing final determinations and correspondence in cases requiring independent judgment. Providing advice and assistance to agency representatives and team members on suitability-related matters.
  • A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education.

For the GS-12: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level (or equivalent) performing all of the following:
  • Applying and interpreting personnel security and suitability regulations, policies, and executive orders to review and adjudicate complex or sensitive cases.
  • Evaluating and resolving issues involving derogatory information to determine appropriate suitability outcomes.
  • Drafting and issuing final determinations and correspondence in cases requiring independent judgment.
  • Providing advice and assistance to agency representatives and team members on suitability-related matters.



Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
