Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to operate, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, align, modify, rebuild, overhaul, reassemble, calibrate, and certify the components of the avionic multi-systems on assigned aircraft to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

Responsibilities:

  1. Tests, maintains, calibrates, and repairs advanced avionics systems using a multi-system test configuration or specialized avionics test stations.
  2. Provides solutions to discrepancies and works with software and systems engineers in the development of new procedures and software. Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training.
  3. Utilizes safety practices and procedures, complies with security regulations, directives, and policies, and maintains a safe and clean work area.
  4. Uses and maintains tools and test equipment required to accomplish duties: Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended.
  5. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. As required, verifies and certifies work processes and procedures of certified coworkers and trainees and adequacy of work accomplished.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of an Electronics Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of the abbreviated test language for all systems and programming principles sufficient to analyze aircraft and test multi-systems, pneumatic equipment, and computerized test station software and software problems sufficient to make recommendations to software engineers to correct problems resulting from software and hardware deficiencies and advise engineers on the effect of proposed changes or modifications to software or sub-systems that effect the entire aircraft multi-system or digital analog video (DAV) multi-system test station. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
  2. Knowledge of the interaction of aircraft avionic multi-systems that are interfaced with the test multi-system DAV automated test station, ITA, DUTS, DAV associated equipment (electrical load bank, video pattern generator, memory loader/verifier, video monitors, heads-up display, and pneumatic test sets) test station in the work center (e.g. electronic flight controls, environmental and fire detection control, radar and radio navigation, warning and caution, mission computer/electronic displays, and integrated radio management ).
  3. Skill in analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing malfunctions in the test multi-system DAV automated test station, ITA, OUTS, DAV associated equipment (electrical load bank, video pattern generator, memory loader/verifier, video monitors, heads-up display, and pneumatic test sets) test software, and aircraft avionic multi- systems to include electronic flight controls, environmental and fire detection control, radar and radio navigation.warning and caution, mission computer/electronic displays, and integrated radio management.
  4. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to adapt and extend applicable technical guidance, directives, schematics, logic and wiring diagrams, programming tables, computer program flow charts, software user guides, computer program listings, and factory. Ability to interpret and comply with regulations and instructions on security, safety, documentation, and otherpublications governing the performance of duties.
  5. Ability to use common and peculiar hand tools, logic analyzers, independent and computer controlled 1553 databus simulator/analyzers, independent and computer controlled ARINC-429 databus simulator/analyzers, RF signal generators.
  6. Basic computer skills are required. Individual must be able to access and use computer based maintenance documentation and supply systems, and be capable of assimilating training on new systems as they are developed and implemented.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Performs shift work with uncommon tours of duty. Maintains job proficiency by reading/reviewing new or revised technical orders or related publications and by completing applicable CDC, OJT, and FTD classes as required.
  • May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs. May be required to support other units in performing on- or off-equipment maintenance.
  • This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs). Two man lift for items exceeding 40 lbs. Heavy carrying (40 lbs). Reaching above the shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of standing are approximately 4 hours/day. Hours of repeated bending are approximately 4 hours/week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of special purpose and/or motor vehicles. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (with or without aid permitted). If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

???????ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others. Working alone.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members; are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
