Individual Occupational Requirements Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. or Experience Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).

Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of professional concepts, principles, practices, procedures, regulations, and laws applicable to a full range of maintenance practices and training responsibilities, such as that gained through extensive specialized training, experience, and skill in applying this knowledge to difficult and complex assignments. Knowledge of principles, practices, and concepts involved in maintenance rules and procedures, and aircraft systems to recommend, to the contractor, development of the syllabus for courses required through academic instruction and on aircraft maintenance training for personnel. Knowledge of methods, principles, practices related to instruction of curriculum, instructional techniques and training resources. Knowledge of DoD, AF, and Major Command directives, concepts, procedures, guidance, and policy as they relate to Maintenance Training, as well as knowledge of command mission and organization.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
