Duties

Help
  • Perform neuro-physiological studies that measure and record electrical activity of the brain, peripheral nervous system (PNS), autonomic nervous system (ANS), and spinal cord.
  • Performs Electroencephalograms (EEGs), Evoked Potentials (EP), Long Term Video EEG Monitoring (vEEG or EMU), Intracarotid Amobarbital Test (a.k.a. WADA), Electrocorticography (ECOG), and the Quantitative Sudomotor Axon Reflex Test (Q-SART).
  • Obtain and assess patients' medical history, explaining testing procedures, and preparing the patient for the intended procedure.
  • Determine and organize the appropriate testing supplies needed.
  • Monitor patient during procedure with knowledge and proficiency in responding to urgent medical conditions.
  • Perform operator maintenance of diagnostic equipment/machinery to ensure consistent functionality.
  • Sets-up, operates, and troubleshoots a variety of diagnostic equipment some of which involve interfaces with menu-driven software programs.
  • Maintains diagnostic equipment to ensure accurate testing and diagnosis is possible and performs operator maintenance of diagnostic equipment/machinery to ensure consistent functionality.
  • Transports some equipment (cumbersome in size and hefty in weight), throughout the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) in an organized and careful manner.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to determine an equitable workload distribution based on clinical priorities and available resources.

  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting or assisting in neuro-physiological studies; preparing patient for procedure and setting-up diagnostic equipment for designated procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Certification from Certified American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) preferred.
