Duties

Help
  • Operate and maintain shipboard electronics systems including navigation, communications, and shipboard computer network hardware and software.
  • Maintain and integrate computers and Local Area Networks (LAN).
  • Ensure proper and effective operation of the Dredge's electronic equipment and systems by means of basic and electronic troubleshooting.
  • Hands on maintenance and repairs.
  • Collect and use applicable electronic methods to reformat data throughout the vessel.
  • Report on problems encountered on the various systems and equipment.
  • Track maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of faults and repairs.
  • Ensure spare parts and components for all systems are available.
  • Calibrate equipment for the most efficient use of resources.
  • Work with and assist the vessel's electrician(s) as needed.
  • Operate with the ships Lockout Tag-out system and other safety programs.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • You will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment physical and annual thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • You MUST possess a current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) with a wiper/ oiler endorsement AND a current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC);
  • and possess a Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) with valid Electrician's Endorsement) or be able to obtain one within 24 months of entrance on duty.
  • May be required to complete a one-year probationary period.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. Qualified applicants for this position must have the ability or potential ability to maintain and repair 1) Ship Navigation Equipment and systems including radars, Fathometers, Speed Logs, GPS's, Weather Fax, Navtex, etc; and 2) Ship Communication Systems including Global Marine and Distress Safety System, PBX system, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), etc. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You must possess a current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) with a wiper or higher endorsement, and a (QMED) Qualified Member of the Engine Department with valid Electricians Endorsement within 24 months of entrance on duty.
